Why are we replacing our playground? We are raising funds for a new school playground because the CBE has notified us that our current school playground will be removed in the summer of 2019 due to age and condition of playground. The original playground structure is over 26 years old and does not meet the current safety standards. Due to the age of the current playground it is not eligible for refurbishment as the parts are no longer made.
Once our playground is removed spring of 2019 there will not be a playground until we raise the funds to build one. A school without a playground is hard to imagine
How much? A typical playground for a school the size of Eugene Coste will cost around $165,000. Some grants are available to help, but a large amount of money must be raised and in the bank.
Dollars to date - up to March 14, 2018
How much have we raised so far?
Total earnings to date: $156,296.50
This is a great start and we are in the process of applying for matching grants.
Co-Op Community Spaces - Application was submitted on March 1, 2017. If we receive this grant we can get $75,000. This would be a great grant to get in order to make the area around the playground a great meeting space for students, families and community members. We could add benches and picnic tables, trees and other items to make the area inviting to learn, play and be together Jump Start Grant - Jumpstart Accessibility Grants are intended to support capital costs of construction and renovations related to improving physical accessibility to, and inclusivity in, recreation facilities for children with disabilities in Canadian communities.
CFEP - Match up to $125,000. The grant application is due May 1, 2018 and takes approx. 6 months to find out if we received the grant.
Our time line for our new playground to be installed is summer of 2019.
We will need the help of our parent community and all the community to get to this goal! The Enrichment Society and Playground committee are looking for more people that may have ideas, a little bit of time, and the desire to be part of our Eugene Coste School Playground Committee. Everyone is welcome to attend the Playground Committee and Society meetings. Please watch for emails from the Enrichment Society about the next Playground Committee Meeting(s). You can also come to the monthly Enrichment Society meetings for updates.
